Can you remember when you were younger and your parents would take you to a bonfire or fireworks display? All those fantastic smells of burning fire, toffee apples, jacket potatoes and bonfire toffee? It’s a great family night and will be remembered for years to come by the young ones – follow our guide on how to keep safe at this time of year!

Bonfire Night -Stay Safe with Wynsors

Obviously you’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors enjoying the fireworks this bonfire night, so a few essentials are going to be needed to keep the family warm and dry, we all know what the UK weather can be like, especially if you have an event planned outside. Warm boots and wellies, thick thermal sockshatsgloves and scarves are a must for keeping the family warm! And with the weather being as it is in the UK, no doubt you’ll be needing to take an umbrella to the bonfire too!

Remember to keep the children at a safe distance away from the bonfire or fireworks. Many public events will put up safety barriers near the bonfire and employ professionals to handle the fireworks but at a friend, family or less public display children can get very close to naked flames. With the weather being cold at this time of the year, it can be very tempting to warm your hands near the flames, don’t forget that debris, wood and anything thrown on the fire can spit back at you and also be wary of bits floating down which could potentially cause clothing to catch alight.

Taking a few snacks along with you (especially as food can be very expensive at some displays) will keep the children happy if there are intervals between the fireworks. Remember if children are getting tired a toffee apple will keep them occupied just long enough before you can get them home into their slippers and off to the land of nod.
