Jake makes big steps towards achieving his dream
A brave Grimsby boy determined to learn to walk has been given a helping hand by a local shoe shop.
Wynsors World of Shoes donated trainers, football boots and a football to eight-year-old Jake Storr, whose courageous fight to be able to walk has made him famous across the region.
Jake suffers from cerebral palsy, which left him unable to walk unaided. Earlier this year, he had an operation in America to help him to eventually walk independently. His dream is to play football with his friends and family.
Staff at Wynsors heard Jake’s story through store manager Melissa Ford, whose son goes to school with Jake.
Melissa said: “We hope these gifts will give Jake inspiration on his journey – he’s a lovely boy and was very happy and polite when he came into the store.
An excited Jake visited the store with his mum and grandma to choose his trainers and football boots.
Jake’s grandma, Jan Burgess, said: “Jake really enjoyed getting his trainers and ball and meeting everyone at Wynsors.
“Jake is doing well and building up the muscles he has never been able to use before. He’s walking more and more around the home. He still has a long way to go, but he’s received great support and is making good progress.”
